British Columbia Forest Products made lumber, pulp and paper from coastal and interior timber. E.P. Taylor assembled it in 1946. It built the Crofton mill on Vancouver Island and later worked Mackenzie. The 1979 report shows lumber assembled at Crofton wharves for deep-sea loading.
It converted B.C. timber into export lumber and paper, and was long treated as the province’s second-largest forest company.
Why it mattered
It converted B.C. Crown and private timber into lumber and pulp/paper for export through Crofton and other ports, and it was a major industrial employer on Vancouver Island and in the interior (Mackenzie).
Now
Fletcher Challenge took a majority in 1987 and renamed the company Fletcher Challenge Canada in 1988. The paper mills, including Crofton, later sat in Catalyst and were bought by Paper Excellence in 2019. That group now operates as Domtar.
