Dominion Bridge fabricated and erected steel bridges and building frames from Lachine, with shops in Winnipeg, Amherst, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. The 1977 head office was on Dorchester Boulevard in Montreal.

It was a principal Canadian bridge and building-steel fabricator for the CPR and for civic and industrial frames.

Why it mattered

It was a principal Canadian bridge and building-steel fabricator for the CPR and for civic and industrial frames. Lachine sat on rail and the canal. Quebec's cultural-heritage register treats the Lachine works as a major 19th–20th century plant.

Now

The Canadian fabricator was sold to Cedar Group in 1994. Dominion Bridge filed for creditor protection in 1998. There is no continuing Dominion Bridge steel company. The Lachine shop later closed.
