Husky Oil was a Calgary producer and refiner built around Lloydminster heavy oil. A Wyoming refinery was moved to Lloydminster, Alberta, in 1946. By 1977 it had Canadian refineries there and at Prince George, B.C., and a production office on the Saskatchewan side of Lloydminster.
It built the main commercial heavy-oil system on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, later including the Lloydminster upgrader.
Why it mattered
Husky built the main commercial heavy-oil refining and production system on the Alberta–Saskatchewan border at Lloydminster and a western Canadian retail/refining network. That corridor later included the Lloydminster upgrader.
