Ranger Oil was a Calgary explorer and producer, named Ranger in 1958 after earlier Maygill companies. It developed Western Canadian oil and gas and later worked the North Sea and other foreign fields.

It was a Calgary independent that used a western Canadian base to operate abroad.

  • Headline deal values differ ($1.04 billion in the Globe and Mail; $1.6 billion Canadian in Oil & Gas Journal, which may include assumed debt). The $8.25 cash-per-share term is in both.
