The company
Canada Steamship Lines, Limited, headquartered at 759 Victoria Square, Montreal, operated Great Lakes and St. Lawrence bulk carriers, package freighters, and self-unloaders, plus shipyards and road transport.

That year
The S.S. Coverdale was completed and commissioned at the opening of navigation and, with her sistership the S.S. Hochelaga, carried record cargoes of iron ore, grain and coal. The fleet consisted of 60 ships, of which 50 were freighters.
