The company
Canada Tungsten Mining Corporation mined tungsten at Cantung in the Nahanni district of the Northwest Territories, near the Yukon border. The deposit was found in 1954. The company was formed in 1959. Open-pit production started in 1962. Underground ore from the E Zone entered the mill in 1974. The town of Tungsten housed the workforce.

The company earned record net earnings of $22,977,000 or $4.60 per share. The expanded mine and mill produced a record 442,000 short ton units of WO3 from 349,000 tons of ore in the 46 weeks they operated before a strike began on November 14, 1980.
