Westinghouse Canada made electrical equipment in Hamilton: turbines, generators, switchgear, industrial systems, and, for a time, appliances. Canadian Westinghouse took the Westinghouse Canada name in 1971. The 1979 and 1981 reports are from those Hamilton plants.

The Hamilton works were a main Canadian source of power-generation equipment and a large industrial employer in the city.

Now

CBS Corporation sold the power-generation business, including the Hamilton plants, to Siemens in 1998. The works ran as Siemens Westinghouse. Siemens announced in 2008 that it would phase out the Hamilton gas-turbine plant. There is no Westinghouse Canada electrical manufacturer today.

  • McGill dates the Incorporated name to 1980; the Industrial Hamilton essay uses 1981. Both refer to the same Westinghouse Canada company.
  • Exact last production year at Hamilton after the 2008 Siemens announcement is not taken from a later Siemens release here.
  • Appliance and other non-power divisions were sold on other timelines not fully listed here.
