The company
Canadian Marconi made radio and later avionics in Montreal. It was incorporated in 1903 as Marconi's Canadian wireless company, after the 1901 transatlantic signal, and took the Canadian Marconi name in 1925. It ran a Cape Breton station, coastal ship stations, a Montreal factory, and CFCF radio. Consumer radio and television manufacturing ended in 1966. By 1981 the work was aircraft navigation, tactical radios, and related electronics.

That year
Canadian Marconi spent more than $6 million expanding and upgrading the Montreal plant, primarily in components manufacturing. On April 1, 1981 it organized the electronic components operations as a separate Components Division.
