The company
Incorporated in 1950, Dome Petroleum Limited had become one of the largest oil and gas companies in Canada, with exploration primarily in Canada, a fleet of western Arctic drillships, and a major shipyard in Canada.

That year
Dome participated in 298 gross exploratory wells in western Canada, resulting in 48 oil and 149 gas discoveries. In the Deep Basin of west-central Alberta, 54 wells were drilled, resulting in 10 oil and 38 gas discoveries.
