Stelco Inc., formed in 1910 as The Steel Company of Canada, Limited when Ontario and Quebec steelmakers merged, was Canada's leading steelmaker, producing approximately 35% of the nation's steel.

That year
In June 1980 the first steel was poured at Lake Erie Works, and on September 16 the new plant was opened officially by Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau.
