The company
Canadian Occidental Petroleum, CanOxy, produced oil, gas, sulphur, and chemicals from Calgary. It was formed in 1971 when Occidental combined Jefferson Lake Petrochemicals of Canada with other Canadian oil, gas, and chemical holdings.

Net income rose to $115 million or $3.41 per common share, the company's most successful year. In April the Syncrude plant produced its 200 millionth barrel of synthetic crude.
